Nisbet Oyster Co., Inc.
The Nisbet Oyster Co., Inc. was founded in 1975 by David Nisbet. While today the farm utilizes over 500 acres of tideland on Willapa Bay, southwest Washington, the farm began on only 10 acres. Dave worked the farm himself and then went on to sell iced oysters from totes in his pick-up truck to Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. While still selling consistently high quality oysters to those original customers, the Company has grown its customer base to locations worldwide.
In 1978, a 400 sq ft. processing plant was purchased on the Niawiakum River which allowed the Company to expand its product line to include shucked oysters. It has recently expanded even further. Today, it operates a new 15,000 sq. ft. state of the art oyster processing plant, which is considered a model facility by both the federal Food and Drug Administration and the Washington State Department of Health, Shellfish Division. A High Hydrostatic Pressure (HHP) processor, built by Flow International, was installed and in June 2001, Nisbet Oyster Co. became the first west coast processor to employ HHP technology. This new technology has enabled the Company to become an industry leader in developing new value added products. In 2009, our company expanded with a cold storage freezer of 30,000 cubic feet for our newest product Steamers in 5, along with additional storage space.
Employing 70 full time men and women on the farm and in the processing plant, the company processes over 2 million pounds of shellfish products annually. The company markets exclusively under the Goose Point Oyster and Goose Point labels, names that have become synonymous with quality and services in the marketplace.
Nisbet Oyster Co., Inc. is a closely held Washington State corporation, owned and operated by David and Maureene Nisbet.
Our newest addition to Nisbet Oyster Co., Inc.
Our company christened a new oyster dredge the NANCY N. to work on our farm of 500 acres. Owner Dave Nisbet drew up the design based on the company's current 41' traditional wood dredge the STANVIC. The project started in June 2008 at the J & H Boatworks shop in Warrenton, OR. The new dredge is 45 feet long and 17 feet wide, she is composed of a sturdy steel hull, stainless still decks, aluminum wheel house and galvanized steel rigging with hydraulically run winches and rigging for mechanically harvesting oysters off the bay floor and lifting tubs of fresh oysters. The NANCY N's 350 horse power, 6 cylinder diesel Isuzu motor turns a 34'' propeller. There is also a KEW generator for powering lights as well as refrigerator and microwave oven. The new boat will assist the STANVIC in seed operations, transplanting and harvesting Goose Point Oysters Inc. for Nisbet Oyster Co., Inc. distributing the best tasting oysters in the Pacific North West.
